True

True. What a perfect Five Minute Friday word. I have been reading God's word with an emphasis on discovering what is true - according to God - not me, not the media version of truth, not anyone else's idea of truth, just God's.

Two months ago I began keeping a Truth Journal. As I read the Word, I try to discern what is true about God and what is He saying that is true. 

I have a son who seems to believe so many of the enemy's lies to the point that he starts to feel overwhelmed, anxious, inadequate, and depressed. At those times when we speak on the phone, I make it my mission to try and show him truth according to God's word. 

The enemy tries to take what is true, twist and distort it, and make us believe that lies are the truth. That is why he is called the father of lies. Our on-going mission needs to be filling ourselves to the brink and spilling over with God's truth according to His Word so that we cannot be fooled by lies from one whose mission it is to destroy us.

Wednesday Hodgepodge #2

1. What do you think makes a good dad?

I think a good dad is one who is physically, mentally, and emotionally available to his children.

2.  What's something you learned from your own father?

I learned how enjoyable it is to be held on your parent's lap and cuddled often. A gift I gave my children too.

3. It's your birthday-what kind of cake will we be having?

We will be having chocolate pie.

4. When you're faced with a big decision are you more of a go with your gut type of person, or are you someone who reasons it all out, weighing the pros and cons? 

I weigh the pros and cons, then go with my gut.

5. June is National Dairy Month. What's your favorite dairy item? Most often purchased dairy item? 

My favorite dairy item is ice cream. My most purchased would be milk and yogurt.

6. Explorer Jacques Cousteau was born on June 11, 1910....what's something you've recently discovered or something you'd like to explore?

The biblical idea of truth has been on my mind so much lately. I would like to explore everything the Bible has to say about truth.

7. Are you typical of your generation?

I don't think I'm typical of my generation, but perhaps everyone else feels the same way.

It is startling to realize so much of the world is in turmoil - wars, protests,  government oppression, bombings - but we hear so little about it in the U.S.

Travel Truth

A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.

I couldn't decide what to write about for my T post today. I thought about Travel and I thought about Truth, then I came upon the quote by Twain and was amused to find he combined the two into one pithy comment.

So, a few quick words about each.

TRAVEL: I would love to travel, but have never had much opportunity, which is why I was stumped when trying to devise a travel post. My wish list for travel destinations is the U.K., Italy, Australia, and Japan. It seems travel will definitely be in my future though, as my daughter and son-in-law will be moving to Peru this summer. South America was not on my destination list but, "Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails" (Proverbs 19:21).

TRUTH: In my H post for the Blogging A-Z Challenge, I related a story about honesty. I find honesty and truth to be tightly twined concepts. Telling the truth involves being honest, and being honest requires one to be truthful. My husband and I recently felt compelled to tell the truth to someone about one of those "elephant in room" situations. We paid a price for telling the truth and hurt was part of the fallout. He and I have no regrets about telling the truth, and despite the hurt, peace and relief also resulted. Moral of the story? Let truth prevail.

T is done, now it is time to move onto the letter U.
