Just an Ordinary Week

Image
The electrician came this week to do some stop-gap repairs to the circuit-breaker box. The refrigerator kept getting turned off when the breaker switch flipped. There is a larger repair looming on the horizon.

Our son's student loan application is still pending. Yet another piece of information is required, another signature, another shuffling back and forth of information across the miles.

After two days of rain, I noticed a small stain on the living room ceiling this afternoon that wasn't there before. The roofer will look at it on Monday, but we have two more days of rain ahead of us.

And I woke up with a sore throat that hasn't gone away.

Just another ordinary week.

 If the LORD had not been on our side-- let Israel say--
if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us,
when their anger flared against us, they would have swallowed us alive;
the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,
the raging waters would have swept us away.
 Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
We have escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
(Psalm 124)

Yes, an ordinary week, but lived with faith in an extraordinary God.

Submissive Heart

Above all, ask God to give you faith to believe that His providential will for you in these circumstances comes to you from His infinite wisdom and goodness and is ultimately intended for your good. And then ask God to give you a heart that is submissive to His providential will when it is contrary to your own plans.

Well Watered Garden

The Lord will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like a spring whose waters never fail.
Isaiah 58:11

Who Can Know?

Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds,
how he thunders from his pavilion?

Warrior Woman

Welcome to the Five Minute Friday link up. Today's word prompt is brave.

Every woman is a warrior, we fight for the souls we love with every prayer we can muster. But, even a warrior loses their courage at times, the brave warrior feels defeated and hopeless.

These are the moments when we look for reinforcements and muster other brave warriors to pray with us, to come before the throne of the Almighty, the eternal and mighty general who is never defeated. The One who makes us brave, and strong, and restores hope as we continue in the battle.

Evacuation

Tubaman has been evacuated. Yes, his school is in the path of the tropical storm/hurricane and is located at sea level so he is home again.  At home, we are battening down the hatches in anticipation of strong winds and a lot of rain.

It's kind of funny, not the storm, but the reappearance of Tubaman. During October we'll have seen him for a total of at least 12 days.  You see, there was family weekend, fall break and now enforced evacuation until at least Tuesday.  There hasn't been time to miss him because every time we turn around, there he is.

We have a tendency to imagine things will go a certain way most of the time, life marching along in it's usual routine, and generally it does, but there are many unexpected storms.

East coasters don't expect a hurricane so late in the season, we don't expect inconvenient and costly car repairs (my husband replaced both front and rear breaks on my car and the brake line on his car the last two days, so no relaxation for him this weekend), we don't expect sickness or accidents or failure or death - but they all happen.

If we're prepared spiritually, we're not going to be surprised by the unexpected.  We don't like it.  We're never ready for it.  But we're strong.  We will be able to  withstand the winds that blow because of the power of God.  We trust Him to stand along side us no matter what kind of storm we're facing.  And we also trust Him to help us pick up the pieces in the aftermath.
