Exercise - Again

I am struggling people.  With exercise.  Again.  I haven't fallen off the wagon, or treadmill as the case may be, but I am losing momentum.

Why is it so hard to stick to this?  I really envy people who love to exercise and can't wait to do it everyday.  For me it is drudgery, a chore, work, pain, you get the idea.

Recently, I read how endorphins and pheremones are released when you exercise.  These are the chemicals in your body that make you feel happy and are supposed to lift your mood.  I can honestly say this has never happened to me.

Keeping my eye on the goals, i.e.; good health, strength, endurance, flexibility and weight loss doesn't seem to be enough to convince me to drag my lazy, tired self out of bed every morning.

But I won't give up, I just needed to moan a little bit and maybe get a little sympathy.  Pathetic.

  1. Haha, don't feel too bad. I keep telling myself that I'm going to set aside time to exercise. And then something comes up which leads to me doing something else which leads me to push that one thing off until later and before you know it: the day is over! Maybe I should tell myself that exercise is the equivalent of me time?

    1. I have to admit that I define "Me time" in other rather than exercise.

  2. Ohmygoodness, Elizabeth... I feel your pain! I've never liked Exercise, and didn't do it specifically, but I had a Very Busy, Strenuous Life and kept Very Fit...until this past year when Everything Stopped... Wish you weren't across the Country... We could do it - or complain about it - together!! ;-} We'll keep trying...

    1. I use to live in your county. I guess we'll have to motivate each other long distance.

  3. Good Afternoon!

I completely feel your pain! The fear of having to get started is worse than the actual exercising itself. i will say this - once you have done that run or that class I have never heard anyone say that they regret it!

    Keep Going :)

  4. I am in the same boat, exercise is a chore, not a pleasure. I too would love to be someone who runs and enjoys it, but I don't.

  5. Well, I do not like to exercise so I'm going for walks, parking my car a little further away, during walk I jog, I do not take elevators anymore, just stairs and I stretch often... It works for me!

    1. All great ideas, but these don't burn off enough chocolate calories for me :)

  6. I hate the thought of exercising, but once I get started and get into the flow, I love it. I take several classes at my local gym, yoga, and dancing. That helps make it more interesting than just slogging away on a treadmill.

I'm also planning to take martial arts at some point, when I have the money.

    1. I'm just realizing that I have to mix it up too. I just get sooo bored. (Whine, whine, whine).

  7. I think it is excellent that you exercise! Pat yourself on the back, you're terrific. So many people who should don't....like me...sad to say! Excuses excuses!

  8. You're quite right - a good moan and a little sympathy can do wonders (hence all the grief, anger and sadness on my blog - it DOES do good to "get it all out" sometimes, especially as I have few opportunities to do so in English where I live).
I hope you find your exercise mojo again soon - I'm probably the worst example in the world (though I go everywhere on foot so I think I'm reasonably fit), but I'll be sending good vibes your way all the same!

  9. Oh my - I think I remember this exact issue lying around our house when I was growing up. Nothing's changed, has it? Except for the blue leotard - thank goodness!

    Exercise - EEEWWWW.

  10. I go in phases, but there are three tried and true rules that keep me committed to exercising:
    1) Having a goal to shoot for (like training for a 5K or 10K run)
    2) Having a partner or a team (people I enjoy being with who are training for something just like me) OR...when I'm not in training...
    3) Committing to a class (finding my favorite ones at the gym and making it a habit)

Good luck! It's so worth it! (Now, I just need to get off my bottom and take my own advice!) :)
