Evacuation

Tubaman has been evacuated. Yes, his school is in the path of the tropical storm/hurricane and is located at sea level so he is home again.  At home, we are battening down the hatches in anticipation of strong winds and a lot of rain.

It's kind of funny, not the storm, but the reappearance of Tubaman. During October we'll have seen him for a total of at least 12 days.  You see, there was family weekend, fall break and now enforced evacuation until at least Tuesday.  There hasn't been time to miss him because every time we turn around, there he is.

We have a tendency to imagine things will go a certain way most of the time, life marching along in it's usual routine, and generally it does, but there are many unexpected storms.

East coasters don't expect a hurricane so late in the season, we don't expect inconvenient and costly car repairs (my husband replaced both front and rear breaks on my car and the brake line on his car the last two days, so no relaxation for him this weekend), we don't expect sickness or accidents or failure or death - but they all happen.

If we're prepared spiritually, we're not going to be surprised by the unexpected.  We don't like it.  We're never ready for it.  But we're strong.  We will be able to  withstand the winds that blow because of the power of God.  We trust Him to stand along side us no matter what kind of storm we're facing.  And we also trust Him to help us pick up the pieces in the aftermath.

  1. I like the fact that you said "We're never ready for it." I misread it at first, because "We're ready for it," seemed like the typical, positive thing to say, but we can't be ready for everything.

    1. Some people might be ready, but I never am! Sometimes I have to rant and rave until I gain equilibrium again, but when I'm in a good place spiritually, that equilibrium is regained more quickly.
Hope you are all staying safe.

  2. hope everyone weathers the storm the best they can! I do agree with you about being prepared spiritually for whatever happens in our lives and trusting that God will be there always for us, no matter way.

    1. We feel fortunate to have gotten off so lightly compared with others.

  3. As a Floridian who deals w/ hurricanes often, I, too, have become less attached to my stuff, knowing that life here is temporary anyway. I know this is very scary for northerners who do not typically have hurricanes. But, God eventually calms the storm. He is still in control.

    1. Your attitude is very refreshing and a reminder that our stuff is just that, stuff.
