We have a tendency to imagine things will go a certain way most of the time, life marching along in it's usual routine, and generally it does, but there are many unexpected storms.
East coasters don't expect a hurricane so late in the season, we don't expect inconvenient and costly car repairs (my husband replaced both front and rear breaks on my car and the brake line on his car the last two days, so no relaxation for him this weekend), we don't expect sickness or accidents or failure or death - but they all happen.
If we're prepared spiritually, we're not going to be surprised by the unexpected. We don't like it. We're never ready for it. But we're strong. We will be able to withstand the winds that blow because of the power of God. We trust Him to stand along side us no matter what kind of storm we're facing. And we also trust Him to help us pick up the pieces in the aftermath.
