Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Writer's Life For Me

Were you aware that there are about seven billion writers and wannabe writers in the world?  That's a rough estimate, but while reading through hundreds of the more than 1,000 blogs that are part of the Blogging A to Z Challenge I have encountered an extraordinary amount of writer's blogs.

Everyone writing a blog is actually a writer to some degree, but there are innumerable people who would love to earn their living as writers - particularly as writers of fiction and poetry.  The writers whose blogs I've read exhibit an amazing amount of creativity, energy and excitement.

While writing fiction has never been one of my dreams, mainly because  I don't have plots and characters running around in my brain, I am in awe of those who are actively pursuing their dream of becoming a published writer by actually writing, not merely talking about it.

The only thing left to say is, Write On me hearties yo ho!

  1. You really do have the gift of encouragement, don't you?

    Write on, I shall!

    And back at ye!

  3. I feel like I've been taking this writing thing from the wrong angle. I should follow your example and become a writing pirate. I just need to find my costume and we'll be good to go. Yargh!

I don't have a parrot, but I suppose one of my dogs will do. Or my rabbit.

Now... bring me that horizon. And really bad eggs... Drink up me 'earties. Yo ho!

    1. I'm glad I was able to inspire you, wench. We'll have to get together and celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day.

  4. It is pretty crazy how many of us there are out there! Most of the time it's a bit overwhelming, but then again, inspiring, too! :)

  5. Thanks, Elizabeth! One of the reasons writers blog, I think, is because we'd be sunk without the encouragement from like-minded friends. It is a difficult choice, especially because there are so many people telling you you'll never make it.

    1. It never benefits us to listen to nay-sayers. If the Lord has put it in your heart to write, you should write. A support network can help you keep going when the negative voices (internally and externally) get too loud.

  6. It does seem every other person in the world is a writer with a blog. But what I love about the writing and the book blogging community is how inclusive it is. Sure I might feel a twinge of jealousy seeing someone's novel get picked up by an agent and shortly after selling to a publisher, but it's only because I want that for myself, and not that I'm not happy for the writer. Mostly I'm just excited that someone I "know" from one corner of the internet has reached a goal. Usually they are more than willing to share their experience, which is super generous.

Stopping by for the A to Z challenge!

    1. I've been really surprised while reading through A-Z author blogs how extremely generous some of them are in sharing helpful advice.
I hope great things happen in your writing career.

  8. This is a great post! I'm still smiling. "Yo ho, you ho, a writer's life for me!" Brilliant! Can I steal that phrase? I'm with Sheena, I'm going to adopt your attitude, it's a very good one: "writing pirate" :) Hey my Twitter name is already Red Handed Jill so this works out very well. Thanks for the encouraging post.

    1. You're right! You're already a pirate, especially with a name like Red Handed Jill. I'll have to think up a good pirate name for myself.

  9. Your writing makes me smile. According to the 2007 sifry.com statistic (I know it's old, so am I) there are over 70 million blogs in the blogsphere, creating over 17 new posts each second. That's lots of people with lots to say, and one bloggie friend has already admitted that this makes her want to sit down and shut up. I know the feeling! Yet, something keeps pulling me back into the vast of blogsphere noise. So, thanks for visiting. It really encourages me to have more to say. :-) Excuse me while I have a look around.
