Dream, dream, dream

I wrote a post about job hunting last month that generated some interesting comments.  One of my suggestions was for job searchers to dream about what their perfect or dream job would be.  That really seemed to strike a chord with readers.  Since I don't have a mega-blog this was obviously just a small sampling of people, but of all the different ideas I shared in that post, the idea of a dream job was what resonated for most readers.

It was also surprising to find out that so many people want to work from home. In a country where getting ahead and being a "success" are emphasized, I was amazed by the number of people who don't want to be in the rat race.

For other people, their dream had already come true.  They had their dream job.  I felt so happy for them and was glad that they realized they were "living the dream".

Generally, I don't think we dream enough, or at least I don't dream enough.  I get stuck in the necessary, in the needful and forget there could be something wonderful just around the corner.   So much has to be accomplished in a day.  Money has to be earned, bills paid, food purchased and cooked, children educated, house cleaned and maintained, and this is just the short list.  It's easy to forget to dream.  Easy to forget to dream about the future and dream about how we'd like our lives to be.

My springtime challenge (there's that word again) to you and to me is to dream.  What would we like to be different about our lives?  What would we like to change?  How can we make it happen?

What's your dream?

  1. I am another one who is trying to figure out how to 'work from home' as I'm tired of being 'let go' because others make the decisions for my life - over and over again. As far as 'dreams' go...all of mine seem to have gone by the wayside and I don't have any left at this time... Not what I EVER expected my life to be... ;-/

  3. I once gave up on my dreams of being a writer due to circumstances beyond my control, but things changed and I am able to pursue writing again. Living without dreams is stark and horrible. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  4. Visiting from the A to Z.
Interesting post. I do already have my dream job (running a business with my husband). We used to be so busy, there weren't enough hours in the day. Busy raising kids, busy doing volunteer work, and very busy running the business. The kids are grown, we have given up much of the volunteer work, and our business has slowed with the economy.
I would love to be in a place in between where we once were and where we are now...

    1. Life seems to go through cycles, doesn't it? It does seem like the in between place would be optimum. I sincerely hope your business picks up again.

  5. You know, the passion of my heart is discipling women. I've been able to do this for the past 30 years and have seen the fruit of my labor for the Lord in the lives of other women and their marriages. It isn't, however, a dream/passion from which I can earn money.

So, as I write on my blog the things I teach to the women I mentor, I have to trust in the Lord and leave the $$ concerns to Him.

Thanks for visiting my blog today!

  6. Dreams often become goals, which is never a bad thing.

  7. I had close to my dream job in the 80s when I managed a touring show. I loved being able to travel with expenses paid and performing. Now my dream job would be based at home, but include a good amount of travel.

  8. Sometimes I think I dream TOO much. I look around and ask: What bills? Who really needs to eat? (Seriously, eating is so overrated).

I like what I'm doing now: writing and publishing authors. The only downside is I'm not exactly making the money to help pay for the bills and put food on the table, but I think I'll get there... Maybe I should go dream again.
