Unexplored and Unknown Territory

Sometimes I feel like a moron.  (Is it still okay to say moron?  Am I offending some people group that I totally do not intend to offend?)

When you're in your teen and twenties, you know what's going on in the worlds of sports (well, maybe), entertainment, news (maybe), technology and life in general.  By the time 30 strikes, you get so busy being a grown up - or acting like one because you don't really feel like one - that you don't have time to keep up with all the new developments springing up  everywhere.

Suddenly, you're my age and  have accumulated vast amounts of wisdom, knowledge and information about almost everything, and but have no idea about what's going on in the technological world because it changes every single week.

When I was in my 20's, I was sure that I was always going to be cool and up-to-date.  I have no clue what happened, but I lost it somehow.

Despite my vast storehouse of knowledge I feel like I don't understand anything anymore and have no clue how anything works, or even what it is for.  Last year my kids had to explain to me the differences between tablets, smart phones, ereaders and iPods.  Which is wireless, what's 3G, you know, all that mess.

I feel like I'm gaining some ground and all of this formerly unexplored and unknown territory is becoming somewhat familiar.

But can someone please explain to me how to get a Facebook badge on my blog and how I can design my own button to share with the blogging world?  Remember, you're talking to someone who only learned what html was a few months ago.

(By the way, when I was looking for a picture to illustrate a confused woman for this post, most of the pictures I discovered had blond women in them.  I resent that.)

  1. I've never felt my age (late 30's) - but then again, how are we SUPPOSED to feel, exactly??
And the world of I.T. has become ridiculous - it's taking away the enjoyment of just BEING and listening to the birds and appreciating nature.
I try to limit myself to a certain amount of time on the internet, then get OUT and DO stuff (*sigh* albeit with my small Acer notebook with me in case I get inspired to do some writing).

Keep up the good work - nearly finished A-Zing!

  2. I'll be 50 this year, and I love technology. It's a cliche to say that this stuff gets harder as you get older. That's not the case for me.

  3. Hello.
I am technically challenged. Thankfully my Executive Assistant (wife) is very tech savvy and I have her to thank for constantly updating my blog design.

I have 3 FB badges on my blog:
    1) Profile Badge (in my left sidebar)
    2) Page Badge (in my left sidebar)
To get these badges, go here: https://www.facebook.com/badges

    3) "Like" button for individual posts (this will require some changes to your template code.
For this button, go here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins
NOTE: Unless you make the changes to your template, using this "like" button as is will result in every post having the same number of likes (ie, if 50 people like today's post, it will show 50 people like all your other posts as well.) To make changes to your template code to fix this, email me & I'll give you my Assistant's instructions on how to get around this.
Hope this all helps. Thanks for sharing & following in Networked Blogs. I'm following you there too.

    1. Your EA is a superstar. I will try this out and contact you if I remain befuddled. Give your EA a raise. And a promotion.

    1. That "confidence" is probably my desperation as I try to maintain this crazy pace.
      How do You do it?

  5. I'm in my 20's and I have no idea what's going around me at any time. I'm so focused on trying to keep up with everything that I know nothing about everything. Does that make sense? I have a lot to juggle and truth be told, I've always juggled so many things I can't recall a time when I didn't feel like a grownup. But I wouldn't feel bad about not knowing the difference between a tablet and a smart phone and what not. It's difficult to keep up with technology. I just put on a blindfold and hope for the best.
